The Missionary Life
Hey everybody!! Everything is going pretty good! It was a pretty
average week! Not a whole lot of exciting things happened except my
parents sent me a package! That was pretty good! :) Packages and
letters are definitely accepted! Just so you all know! ;) haha
Throughout the week we were just doing our thing! Riding our bikes
everywhere! We are not aloud to go tracting so basically we set up
appointments with people that we have received referrals or through
personal contacting. I'll give you an example! Last Saturday we were
at the Beach because there was a baptism! So we were at the beach and
this guy was talking to some of the other Elders and they found out he
was in our area so he was put into our hands! Well we talked to him a
little bit and he really wants to be baptized! So we met him
throughout the week and we got to know him and taught him the lessons
and we learned that he smokes. So we knew we had to drop the Word of
Wisdom on him. So Saturday night we were with him and we taught him
the Gospel of Jesus Christ and he was really receptive of it all just
as he has been receptive of everything! So we told him we would also
like to talk to him about this thing called the Word of Wisdom which
prohibits all the tobacco, alcohol, strong drinks, you know the drill!
Well he really struggled with that! He was trying to tell us that he
could do the Vapor Cigarettes or just cut down how much he smokes. But
we told him if he wants to get baptized he has to cut it off! He said
that he has been smoking since he was 15 and he is now in his 30's and
so it would be really difficult for him to just stop! He said it would
be like banging your hand on your head for 17 years and then just
trying to stop! So Elder Marsden said the best way to stop banging
your head is to cut off your hand! You need to quit! So we continued
in the pamphlet and we started reading ways to help breaking an
addiction. One of the ways is to receive a priesthood blessing! So we
asked if he would like a blessing! He said he would love one! So I
gave him a blessing and after the blessing he told us that he felt
something during the blessing and after that he knew what he had to
do! He said I am throwing away my cigarettes right now! So we went out
to that car and grabbed his ciggs and the sprinklers were running and
he told us, "I'm gonna give these cigarettes a baptism!" It is really
amazing the power that the priesthood has! I have been able to
strengthen my testimony on priesthood power and priesthood blessings
so much already! The strength you can receive and the comfort is so
powering and overwhelming through the priesthood and I am so blessed
to be able to hold it!
That is the main thing about my week! Other than that it was just a
lot of riding bikes and meeting with other people. Last night we were
at a members home and the kids were sharing their disgusting jelly
bellies with us! They had skunk spray, baby wipes, barf, boogers,
rotten egg, so on and so forth! How gross is that? Luckily for me I
got skunk spray! Holy cow! I tasted skunk until I got back to the
apartment and brushed my teeth, mouthwashed, brushed and flossed!
nasty crap! But it was a fun experience haha! I hope you all have an
amazing week! Love all you guys!
